SupportDetails
Quebec has reached an agreement with the federal government to coordinate the buyback program, receiving up to $12.4 million in federal funding. Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière clarified that Quebec's firearms registry will not be used by the federal government to identify affected owners, and no one will come to confiscate firearms. He acknowledged the program alone will not solve firearms crime, but said Quebec chose to make it easier for willing owners to obtain compensation. Thousands of owners have already taken the compensation.
Official Statement
“At no time can Quebec's firearms registration service be used by the federal government to identify firearms owners who are affected by the prohibition. No one will come to confiscate your firearms either.”
— Ian Lafrenière, Minister of Public Security of Quebec
