Nova Scotia

Details

Nova Scotia will not provide any assistance or take part in the federal gun buyback program, with no provincial policing resources used to support it. Premier Tim Houston stated the focus should be on "those who commit crimes, not licensed law-abiding gun owners." This is particularly significant as Nova Scotia was the site of the 2020 mass shooting — conducted with illegally owned and imported firearms. However, Halifax Regional Police has independently chosen to participate, using rotating off-duty officers with all costs covered by the federal government.

Official Statement
