Saint John Police Chief Robert Bruce, head of the NB Chief of Police Association, said police won't help enforce the buyback: "We don't have the money or the resources. Most of these guns in criminal activity are coming from across the border. We're not going looking for you."

The Government of the Northwest Territories announced it will not administer the federal gun buyback program. Justice Minister Jay Macdonald stated the RCMP will not participate in confiscation activities, and the GNWT requested Ottawa provide direct communication to all Indigenous governments in the territory.
