Ontario has refused to participate in the federal gun buyback program. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced they will not participate, stating they do not have the capacity to collect all 'assault-style' firearms in the province. The decision was made in consultation with the provincial government. Premier Doug Ford has consistently criticized the program, saying the money should go to border security instead.
Official Statement
“The OPP does not have the capacity to collect all 'assault-style' firearms in the province.”
